He's a jobbing farmer and local councillor with a dodgy hip and a pet pig - but Amos Cotswold is the unlikely hero in the second book by Warwickshire writer Angela Story.

Amos first appeared in print in Angela's first novel On A Thin Stalk when he uncovered and solved the mystery of phantom aircraft and a ruthless gangmaster operating in the Warwickshire countryside.

Now, in Shrouded Legacy, Amos becomes is drawn into the action following the death of the local 'Lord of the Manor' which causes his estate to fall into disrepair much to the detriment of people living in the area.

Besides being gripped by the exploits of Amos, readers who know the Welford area will also be looking for references to places they recognise, not least Weston Church, which becomes Marston Church for storytelling purposes. Welford becomes Weston Hathaway and Weston becomes Marston but other places, such as Stratford and Warwick, keep their proper names when the adventure moves into those towns.

"It is obvious where the novels are set, a few changes to some places give me a little artistic licence whereas with other places I just describe them as they actually are. Everyone would know it was Stratford whatever name I gave it so why bother changing it?

"Some of the characters take some of their characteristics from people I know locally but most are just created in my imagination. The pub landlord is based on my husband Chris," explains Angela with a smile.

Born in Essex, Angela had a very successful career in computer sales but always wanted to write. She also had a keen desire to return to Warwickshire after living in Broome and then Loxley before moving back to London.

"I have always been interested in writing and had the character of Amos in my head for a long time. I actually wrote the three novels in the reverse order to which they are being published (Straws Upon the Surface will be released in the near future) but I deliberately wrote them so they didn't have to be read in any order."

So what next for Amos? "Well, he's quite a character, I'd love to see a television station pick him up and give him his own series. He's certainly different from the usual amateur detective that appear on our screen and I'm sure people would love his pet pig Napoleon," she says.

Shrouded Legacy is published in hardback by Robert Hale at 18.99. It is available at most bookstores and on Amazon or direct from www.halebooks.com
