Louise Igoe was the youngest ever partner at law firm Lodders. She shares her business life

Introducing Louise Igoe, partner, Lodders Solicitors LLP, Number Ten Elm Court, Arden Street, Stratford upon Avon CV37 6PA

Describe your workplace:
Lodders is a law firm with offices in Stratford-upon-Avon, Henley-in-Arden and Cirencester. Our private client department is one of the largest in the Midlands region. Our dedicated team provides a range of legal services including all aspects of wills, trusts, estates and tax planning and the affairs of the elderly and infirm.

My specialisms include advising clients with business or agricultural interests on planning for inheritance tax and succession for family businesses. I also assist executors and administrators with estates containing business and agricultural assets, which often involves negotiating with HMRC on the availability of reliefs to reduce the inheritance tax liability.

My department also provides tax planning strategies for inheritance tax and capital gains tax for high net worth clients.

What inspired you to become a solicitor?
Its a challenge! I decided to study law at university because I wanted to do something that was relevant to everyday life. The law is constantly evolving and changing which keeps it demanding and interesting. I enjoy meeting and interacting with a diverse range of people and each has different needs. In my area of law, people can be dealing with complex matters at difficult times and I like to think that I can make the process easier for them.

What has been your proudest achievement to date?
Achieving a first class honours degree and then, aged 30, becoming the youngest ever partner at Lodders. Both have shown me that hard work does pay.

What has been your biggest challenge?
Adapting to my changing role following my promotion to partner. This has required balancing the additional internal demands with my client work toensure I continue to provide a high quality service to my clients. I have enjoyed taking on high net worth clients who have complicated affairs and require more detailed tax advice.

Who has been your biggest supporter or source of advice?
Private client partners Martin Green and Stephen Brignull, who have been great mentors to me during my time at Lodders.

What are your professional plans for 2013-14?
To continue to develop knowledge in my area of work and keep on top of the constantly changing tax environment, while bringing on more junior members of staff within the department.

What do you enjoy doing outside work?
I have started to enjoy running. I also play netball and ski. I enjoy travelling and plan to visit America later in the year. I have taken up golf which is proving challenging.

What do you like best about living and working in Stratford?
I love the atmosphere in the town and the frequent events, such as the Literary, River and Fringe Festivals. I enjoy going to the theatre, not only to see Shakespeare but also to the comedy nights occasionally run on Sundays. I love food, both cooking and eating out, and there is a huge choice of good quality restaurants.
