In the lap of luxury

Christmas at Walton Hall Hotel proved to be the perfect break for Josie Kemp and her family

Walton Hall was, without a doubt, the best hotel experience I have ever had in the UK. Id booked a three day Christmas break for myself, my sister and my 90 year old mum. From the moment we arrived to the time we left we were treated like royalty. The staff were absolutely wonderful. They were kind, enthusiastic, friendly, pro-active and all round superb.

There was someone to carry our suitcases and copious bags of Christmas presents to our rooms as soon as we arrived. Check-in was swift and efficient. The rooms were amazing. Mum had a double bed to herself with two separate rooms and a huge bathroom with bath and wetroom. My sister and I had a twin room which was huge with a massive bathroom with a king size bath as well as a separate shower. Both rooms had wonderful views over the lake and grounds and the furnishings and decoration were immaculate, chic and tasteful. This was real luxury.

The rooms contained lots of lovely touches such as complementary champagne on ice, a tin of home made mince pies, a bowl of nuts, a bag of sweets and a bag of fresh fruit.

On Christmas morning there was a Santa sack outside the door containing ten really good quality and useful presents, which was a lovely touch. On Boxing Day, boxes of chocolates were put in the room.

The food was of the very best quality. The chefs at the Walton Hall are superb. The breakfasts, buffet lunches, afternoon teas (fabulous pastries!) gala dinners were of the highest quality and the service in the restaurant was just right. Not too hurried and not too slow.

On Christmas Eve and Boxing Day evening we were treated to a champagne reception with canaps before dinner which was a lovely surprise. The bar and lounges were comfortable and chic and the grand foyer with its log fire was a cosy place to sit and chat.

The Christmas atmosphere was completed by lovely Christmas trees all around the communal areas. The grounds to the hotel are just beautiful with lakes, ducks, swans, geese, squirrels and lovely walks through the local village and across the countryside.

The grounds are well maintained and landscaped with a huge variety of specimen trees and shrubs. The hotel has its own little church with breathtaking stained glass windows. My sister and I used the leisure centre each day for a swim, sauna and steam - a great treat. But the thing that really made this stay unique was, without doubt, the staff.

They were all wonderful and made us feel very special. We had saved up all year for this treat and were not disappointed - and yes, it was expensive, but actually for what we got and the experience we had, the cost was absolutely worth it.

Were going to book for next Christmas and to experience more of this amazing hotel. We have done the three Barcel Christmas breaks at other hotels in the chain before in previous years. All have been good, but nothing compared to this experience.

Well done to all Barcel Walton Hall. You have made this a very special Christmas for the three of us. Barcel should be proud of the wonderful staff here and the staff should rightly be proud of their hotel.
